Elegy wins in Philippines

TEHRAN, Dec. 06 (MNA) – Iranian short film Elegy, directed by Yousef Kargar, received the Golden Durian Prize for best Asian short at the 3rd SalaMindanaw International Film Festival in the Philippines.

As Iran’s sole representative, Elegy competed with films of other Asian countries.

The festival's panel of jury announced that the film received the award for its "poignant portrait of a man’s agonizing journey to find truths and answers".

Running from November 18 to December 2, 2015, the film festival was held in the cities of General Santos and Cotabato in two sections of Asian full-length competition and Asian short film.

The Philippines Festival is recognized by NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema), an organization established in 1990 and based in Sri Lanka which has since become the leading platform for the discovery and promotion of Asian cinema around the world.

The Iranian work will also attend the Russian Silver Horse Filmfest which is slated for December 9-12 in Ufa.  It will vie with films from Russia, Tajikistan, India, Egypt, and Azerbaijan as well other countries.

Elegy has so far attended more than 50 festivals and garnered several awards as well. Produced by the Orumieh office of Iranian Youth Cinema Society, the film narrates the story of an old man who has been waiting for the return of his missing son for 25 years.
